The German Auto manufacturer Porsche has given us some of the most memorable cars over the years. From the technologically advance 959 to the terrifyingly fast 917 to the all-time iconic 911 Carrera RS.Porsches cars are the mos simplest in designs but are some of the peak performance cars and it seems that it’s going to push beyond the engine into the fuel supply.
Recently Porsche made an announcement that it’s going to start experimenting with Synthesised fuel sources. To understand that, we need to know that all types of fuels, be Petrol or diesel, are hydro-carbons. Meaning they are made of hydrogen and carbon, allowing them to be combustible.
The E FUEL is supposed to be the same chemical structure as fuel extracted from crude oil. No, it’s not clear in the sense that no smoke is going to come out of the engine. The clean part is that the hydrogen is obtained by breaking down seawater into oxygen and hydrogen, extracting carbon from the atmosphere, and then electrolyzing it to the correct formula. The interesting thing is that Porsche has already started testing this and plans to set up the first production plant in Chile, South America. Now, how does it affect people and Car culture? Well for starters you won’t have to buy a new car to be fuel compatible. So internal combustion engines aren’t going anywhere. Also EV’s, at this point in time are a fool’s path. It’s suspected that by 2050 the lithium deposit will be fully depleted. Not to mention just the sheer amount of environmental damage it does. So it appears that internal combustion is not going anywhere. Also, this fuel will be 10 fold cheaper than actual Petrol and Diesel. And we may just go back to the time where big engine boat cars were the common sight.
